Egypt’s Amin Omar to Officiate Nigeria vs Benin Clash as Super Eagles Chase Crucial World Cup Qualification Win 🇳🇬⚽

Egypt’s Amin Omar to Officiate Nigeria vs Benin Clash as Super Eagles Chase Crucial World Cup Qualification Win 🇳🇬⚽

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed Omar to take charge of the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

The encounter, scheduled for Tuesday at 5pm at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, is one of the most crucial fixtures for both West African sides, who are still battling for a ticket to the global showpiece.

Omar will be assisted by his fellow countrymen — Mahmoud Abouelregal (Assistant Referee 1), Ahmed Tawfik Ali (Assistant Referee 2), and Mahmoud Moustafa Elbana (Fourth Official).
Meanwhile, Jason Joseph Damoo from Seychelles will serve as the Referee Assessor, Prosper Harrison Addo from Ghana will act as the Match Commissioner, and Xolile Vilakati from eSwatini has been named Security Officer.

This appointment adds a layer of intensity to what is already expected to be a tense and emotionally charged contest.

💭 Opinion: Super Eagles Must Rise Above Pressure — Not Just Play, but Prove

The coming clash in Uyo is more than just another qualifier — it’s a test of pride, resilience, and redemption for the Super Eagles.
Having struggled earlier in the campaign and suffering a shock loss to Benin Republic in June, Nigeria now faces a must-win situation. The players are not just fighting for three points — they’re fighting for belief.

With Amin Omar at the centre, a referee known for his firm control and no-nonsense approach, the Super Eagles must keep composure and avoid unnecessary confrontations. In matches like this, discipline and mental focus often determine who triumphs.

Nigeria’s fans expect nothing short of a statement performance — one that reminds Africa that the Super Eagles remain giants not just in name, but in action. The time for excuses is over; the time to deliver is now.
