Arteta Sweats Over Gabriel’s Fitness Ahead of Crystal Palace Clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed concern over the fitness of defender Gabriel Magalhães, who remains a major doubt for the Gunners’ Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Brazilian center-back was forced off during Arsenal’s midweek clash with Atletico Madrid after picking up what Arteta described as “an issue.” Since then, the 27-year-old has not trained with the team, leaving his availability uncertain.

“Gabi had to leave the pitch with an issue, and he hasn’t been able to train yet,” Arteta said during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“So, let’s see how he evolves in the next 24 hours, whether he’s available or not for the weekend.”

The Arsenal boss also gave updates on Noni Madueke, Kai Havertz, and Martin Ødegaard, confirming that while they are “progressing really well,” none of them are expected to return within the next week.

“They are starting to do certain activities,” Arteta added. “They are all super-willing to be available as quick as possible, but at the moment, none of them are yet in contention in the next week or so.”

💭 Opinion: Arsenal’s Depth Faces Another Real Test

Injuries have always been Arsenal’s Achilles’ heel during critical stages of the season — and this latest concern around Gabriel could unsettle the team’s rhythm just when consistency is needed most.

The Brazilian has been a pillar of stability in Arsenal’s defense, forming one of the most formidable partnerships in the Premier League alongside William Saliba. His absence, even temporarily, could force Arteta to reshuffle his backline — perhaps bringing in Jakub Kiwior or Ben White centrally — and that always risks disrupting balance.

However, if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Arteta’s Arsenal, it’s their resilience. Despite setbacks, the squad continues to show belief and structure, backed by tactical adaptability and mental toughness.

As the Gunners chase their title dream, managing these injury spells smartly could make the difference between silverware and another “so close” season.

🔴 Can Arsenal maintain their momentum without key players like Gabriel and Ødegaard? Or will injuries once again become the stumbling block to their title ambitions?
