Mr Macaroni Criticizes President Tinubu Over Rising Terrorism and School Kidnappings

Nigerian comedian and social activist Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has openly criticized President Bola Tinubu over the country’s escalating security challenges, particularly the rising cases of terrorism and school kidnappings.

In a post on his X handle on Friday, Mr Macaroni condemned the President’s handling of security, describing the continued abduction of schoolchildren as evidence of “incompetence.” He wrote:

"President Tinubu, you said you had all the answers to end Terrorism!! You said any President who could not protect the people is incompetent! Any school child that has been abducted is a result of your incompetence!! The blood of Nigerians being shed as an act of terrorism is on your head!!!"

His statement followed the latest attack in Niger State, where terrorists targeted St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in the Papiri community of Agwara Local Government Area. While the exact number of victims is still being compiled, the Kotangora Catholic Diocese confirmed the attack.

The incident comes shortly after terrorists stormed a government school in Kebbi State, abducting at least 25 students, highlighting the growing national crisis. Efforts to reach the Niger State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful.

OPINION: Public Outcry Highlights Urgent Need for Stronger Security Measures

Mr Macaroni’s criticism reflects widespread frustration among Nigerians over the nation’s deteriorating security situation. When attacks on schools — places meant to nurture the next generation — continue unabated, it becomes a stark measure of the government’s effectiveness.

While social media posts by celebrities are often dismissed as commentary, they can amplify national awareness and put pressure on policymakers to act. The repeated targeting of schools in Niger, Kebbi, and other states demonstrates that security strategies must evolve beyond reactive measures to proactive intelligence, community engagement, and stronger law enforcement presence.

It is also a reminder that leadership is not only measured by policies but by the tangible safety of citizens. The blood of schoolchildren and innocent Nigerians should compel urgent, decisive action. Public figures like Mr Macaroni play an important role in giving a voice to the people, and their outcry may be the spark needed to galvanize systemic change.
