Boma Akpore Opens Up on Costly BBNaija Journey and Post-Show Frustrations

Boma Akpore Opens Up on Costly BBNaija Journey and Post-Show Frustrations

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Boma Akpore, has shed light on the heavy financial sacrifices he made before entering the reality TV show — and the emotional toll that followed after his exit.

Speaking on the “With Chude” podcast, Boma revealed that contrary to public belief, his journey into the BBNaija house was far from smooth or effortless. While many contestants only needed fare to attend auditions, he said his own preparation cost him millions.

According to him, he had to take a flight, lodge in a hotel for an entire month, and buy brand-new outfits — all for a show he wasn’t even sure he would get selected for.

Boma revealed that the hotel stay alone cost him ₦70,000 per day, bringing his total pre-show expenses to over ₦2.1 million.

But the biggest shock, he said, came after the show.

The actor noted that the backlash he faced online caused several brands to pull out of endorsement deals at the last minute.
He explained that people accused him of actions that were never confirmed, insisting that public narratives — not facts — damaged opportunities he had worked hard for.

“Some endorsements came close, but just before payment, something would happen online and the deal would crash,” he said, adding that the same people who complain about how Nigeria operates were often the ones fueling the online toxicity.

Boma said the entire experience left him frustrated, considering the personal risks, financial investment and sacrifices he made to participate in the show.

OPINION: The Hidden Cost of Fame — and the Nigerian Culture of Public Judgment

Boma’s revelation is more than just a personal confession — it highlights a deeper problem in Nigeria’s entertainment ecosystem: public judgment is loud, quick, and often poorly informed.

Many Nigerians admire celebrity success but underestimate the sacrifices behind it.
It’s easy to criticize someone from a distance, especially when social media amplifies negativity faster than truth.

BBNaija is often seen as a golden ticket, but Boma’s story exposes the harsh business side:

  • huge risks,

  • uncertain rewards,

  • and a brutal audience that can make or break your future with a single trend.

His experience mirrors what many public figures face — brands fear backlash, fans jump to conclusions, and the internet never forgets, even when the accusations have no solid basis.

The irony he pointed out is painful but true:
the same society that complains about injustice often practices its own version of online ‘street justice’, convicting people without evidence.

Boma’s story is a reminder that behind every celebrity headline is a human being navigating pressure, sacrifice, and expectations — sometimes paying a price the public never sees.

Whether one likes Boma or not, his transparency forces us to reflect on how quickly we judge people we don’t know, and how easily we contribute to the downfall of the very talents we claim to celebrate.
