Olamide Opens Up on Self-Prioritization: “I’m Focusing on Myself 100 Percent”
Nigerian rap icon and YBNL boss Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide Baddo, has revealed that he is currently prioritizing his personal well-being and creative growth after years of supporting others.
In a candid interview with Flow 98.7 FM, the ace rapper explained that while he has spent much of his career mentoring upcoming artists and pushing his own music, he has now entered a phase where self-focus is paramount.
“Right now, I’m at the phase in my life where I’m really trying to give myself undivided attention. All my life I’ve been trying to be there for people and also trying to do my stuff. But right now, I’m really just trying to focus on myself 100 percent,” Olamide said.
Olamide has been instrumental in shaping the careers of several Nigerian music stars through his label, YBNL, including Lil Kesh, Fireboy DML, Asake, Adekunle Gold, and others. He has also boosted many artists via collaborations and features, such as Zlatan Ibile, Naira Marley, Portable, and Bella Shmurda, helping them reach mainstream audiences.
💭 Opinion: The Art of Self-Care in a Giving Industry
Olamide’s announcement is a powerful reminder that even icons need to pause, reflect, and prioritize themselves. In an industry where mentorship and collaboration are highly valued, it can be easy to burn out while lifting others.
By choosing to focus on his own well-being, Olamide is not only preserving his creative energy but also setting an example for younger artists: success is sustainable only when you care for yourself.
This phase may also herald a new era of music from Olamide, as artists often deliver their best work when they feel renewed, focused, and fully aligned with their vision. Fans can look forward to fresh projects and perhaps a more introspective side of the rap legend in the near future.
