Rwanda Announces Provisional Squad Ahead of 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Against Nigeria and Lesotho

Rwanda’s head coach, Adel Amrouche, has unveiled a 28-man provisional squad for the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Lesotho. The list boasts a blend of experienced and promising talents eager to make an impact on the global stage.

Leading the pack is Kaizer Chiefs’ goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari, who has consistently demonstrated his shot-stopping abilities. Joining him are Sabail FK forward, Innocent Nsuthi, and Al Ahli Tripoli’s dependable midfielder, Bizmana Djihad. Other notable inclusions include Mugisha Bonheur, Jojea Kwizera, Steve Rubanguka, and Hakim Sahabo.

Amrouche is expected to narrow down the squad to 23 players before the qualifiers. The team will convene in Kigali on Sunday to begin preparations for the daunting task ahead.

Upcoming Fixtures:

  • Rwanda vs. Nigeria (Super Eagles): Friday, 21st March 2025 – Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.

  • Rwanda vs. Lesotho (Crocodiles): Tuesday, 25th March 2025 – Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.

Opinion: Can the Amavubi Overcome Their Tough Opponents?

Coach Adel Amrouche has assembled a squad with the potential to deliver strong performances, but the question remains whether they have the tactical depth to outclass the Nigerian Super Eagles, a team renowned for its attacking prowess and well-structured defense.

Their match against Lesotho’s Crocodiles appears to be a more manageable challenge, but overlooking any opponent at this level would be a grave mistake. Rwanda's success will largely depend on how well Amrouche prepares his players for these crucial encounters.

If the team can harness the talents of its top players and work cohesively, they could spring a surprise against Nigeria and solidify their hopes for a successful qualifying campaign.
