Davido Breaks Silence on Hushpuppi: “He Was My Friend, But I Had No Idea About His Fraudulent Life”

Davido Breaks Silence on Hushpuppi: “He Was My Friend, But I Had No Idea About His Fraudulent Life”

Afrobeats megastar Davido has finally opened up about his relationship with Ramon Abbas, the embattled Nigerian fraudster and socialite known as Hushpuppi, whose flashy lifestyle and eventual arrest captivated both the Nigerian and global audience.

In a recent podcast interview, the 30 Billion Gang leader shared his thoughts on the situation, revealing that while he and Hushpuppi were friends, he had no knowledge of the criminal activities that would eventually lead to the socialite’s arrest and conviction.

"He was my friend. I just see him around, I never really knew what he was doing. But he lived a good life," Davido explained.

Though Hushpuppi is currently serving a jail term in the United States for a multi-million-dollar fraud scheme, Davido expressed his continued solidarity with his former friend, assuring fans that Hushpuppi would “be coming out soon.”

While acknowledging the hardship many Nigerians face, which he believes can lead people to make life-altering decisions, Davido offered a nuanced view of the situation:

“In Nigeria, there is a kind of hardship you would face and you will be like, you know what? Let me ball for two years then I am good,” he said.

For Davido, this isn't about excusing illegal behavior, but about understanding the pressures many young Nigerians feel when faced with poverty and limited opportunities. It’s a raw and candid perspective that not only addresses the personal relationship with Hushpuppi but also touches on the broader social issues that push some to choose questionable paths to escape difficult circumstances.

Of course, no one is above the law, and fraud is never the answer to financial struggle. However, Davido’s reflections serve as a reminder of the systemic challenges that fuel crime — and that sometimes, what we see on social media is only the surface of deeper, more complex stories.

Whether you agree or disagree with Hushpuppi’s actions, or Davido’s support, this interview offers a glimpse into the often murky world of fame, friendship, and the pressures that come with both.
