UCL: Enrique Hails Donnarumma’s Heroics in PSG’s Narrow Win Over Arsenal

UCL: Enrique Hails Donnarumma’s Heroics in PSG’s Narrow Win Over Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has heaped praise on goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma following PSG’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday night.

The Ligue 1 champions struck early through Ousmane Dembélé, but it was Donnarumma’s commanding performance between the sticks that ensured the Parisians held on to the lead at the Emirates Stadium.

“That is the work of a goalkeeper, no? Save the team, they work every day for that. In a semi-final, you need all the players,” Enrique told Amazon Prime.

The Italian shot-stopper was called into action on multiple occasions, making crucial saves that kept Arsenal at bay and preserved PSG’s advantage ahead of the second leg in Paris.

Enrique also reflected on the overall performance:

“Great atmosphere but we showed the kind of team we are. We tried to play our way and scored the goal early… We suffered sometimes but could have scored the second goal.”

Opinion: Donnarumma the Wall PSG Needed

In a game where fine margins make all the difference, Donnarumma rose to the occasion. His agility, composure, and timely interventions reminded the world why he was once crowned EURO 2020 Player of the Tournament.

While Dembélé’s goal might have won the match, it was Donnarumma’s gloves that saved it.

As the second leg looms in Paris, PSG may boast an early advantage, but with Arsenal desperate and dangerous, they’ll need their No. 1 to be just as sharp. And judging by this display, he’s more than ready.
