Super Eagles Set to Storm London for Unity Cup, Will Face Ghana in Heated Rivalry Clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will depart Lagos on Sunday for the much-anticipated Unity Cup Invitational Tournament in London, where they’ll rekindle their historic rivalry with the Black Stars of Ghana, TalkTalk Nigeria reports.

The journey will begin at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with a contingent of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) stars and backroom staff making the trip.

🛫 NPFL Players to Represent Nigeria in London

Ten standout home-based players have been invited by head coach Eric Chelle for this international duty. The local stars include:

  • Ahmed Musa

  • Ifeanyi Oyebuchi

  • Papa Daniel

  • Nduka Junior

  • Sadiq Ismaila

  • Waliu Ojetoye

  • Collins Ugwueze

  • Saviour Isaac

  • Abubakar Adamu

  • Sikiru Alimi

They will link up with their foreign-based teammates already scheduled to join up in England’s capital.

⚽ Nigeria vs Ghana – A Clash Beyond Football

The Super Eagles’ first game of the tournament is set for Tuesday, May 27, at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford, against none other than their eternal rivals — Ghana.

This fixture is more than a football match; it’s a matter of national pride and football bragging rights. The Nigeria-Ghana rivalry is one of the fiercest in African football, and fans from both countries are eagerly anticipating another chapter in this age-old battle.

🇷🇺 Moscow Awaits: Friendly Against Russia

In another strategic move to test squad depth, Nigeria will field a different lineup to face Russia in a friendly match on Friday, June 6, in Moscow.

🗣️ Opinion: A Golden Opportunity for Local Stars to Shine

This Unity Cup isn’t just about winning; it’s about unity, exposure, and discovery. It presents a rare chance for NPFL players to showcase their talent on the international stage, especially in front of scouts and clubs in Europe.

The inclusion of both home and foreign-based stars highlights Coach Chelle's growing commitment to blend experience with raw local talent. If the home boys rise to the occasion, this could signal a refreshing shift in the Eagles’ team selection going forward.

📣 Fans React

💬 “Let Musa lead the boys well. NPFL players deserve this spotlight!”
💬 “Nigeria vs Ghana in London? The whole diaspora will be watching!”
💬 “Great move by the NFF to give home-based players this platform.”
💬 “We better beat Ghana. No excuses!”

The countdown begins! Will the Super Eagles soar over the Black Stars? Or will Ghana dim Nigeria’s shine in Brentford?

Either way, the eyes of the football world — especially Africa — will be watching.
