Felix Agu Delighted With First Super Eagles Call-Up, Set for Debut vs Ghana
It’s a dream come true for Felix Agu, the Werder Bremen full-back, as he officially joins the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the first time. The 25-year-old, who previously featured for Germany at youth level, is now embracing his Nigerian roots — and he couldn’t be happier.
Speaking to NFF TV from London ahead of Wednesday’s Unity Cup clash against Ghana, Agu revealed that the decision to switch international allegiance was “pretty easy” once he connected with the coaching staff.
“Once we had the call, it was a pretty easy decision for me to come here because it’s a good way also to connect with my Nigerian side, with my roots,” Agu said.
Agu had a solid season in the Bundesliga and is now poised to make his international debut against the Black Stars — a fixture steeped in pride and rivalry.
“It’s been one and a half days with all the guys. Everyone accepted me pretty well. We’ve had one training session, and yeah, it’s nice being here. I’m happy to be called up and I’m enjoying my time,” he added with a smile.
✍️ Opinion: A New Era of Talent and Identity for the Super Eagles
Felix Agu’s inclusion is symbolic of a refreshing evolution within the Super Eagles camp — one that blends homegrown stars with top-performing diaspora talents. It’s not just about football ability; it’s about identity, belonging, and the emotional connection to the green and white jersey.
His switch from Germany to Nigeria is a statement of belief — in the team, in the culture, and in what the Super Eagles can become again. With more dual-national players reconsidering their options, Nigeria is quietly re-building a squad rich in passion, depth, and global experience.
⚽ What to Expect
Agu brings pace, discipline, and Bundesliga-caliber defending. While debut nerves may exist, his natural talent and growing chemistry with the team could make him a key figure in the Unity Cup and beyond.
As the Super Eagles prepare to take on Ghana, fans should watch Agu closely — not just as a new player, but as a new beginning for Nigerian football.
