Skales Debunks Divorce Rumor Over Career Mockery, Calls Viral Report “Evil”

Skales Debunks Divorce Rumor Over Career Mockery, Calls Viral Report “Evil”

Nigerian singer and rapper John Njenga-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has come out to refute a viral report claiming that he divorced his wife, Precious Hassanity, for mocking his music career.

The rumor, which originated from an X (formerly Twitter) user, @Verity_HQ, alleged that Skales justified divorcing his wife after she joined online trolls in belittling his career — the very career, the post claimed, that was “paying her bills.”

However, Skales has firmly denied the statement, calling it false, malicious, and damaging. In a response posted to his social media, the artist expressed anger and disappointment over the fabricated report.

“This is really evil of you that you would cook up such a story,” Skales wrote. “This is not fair. I have never made such a statement and this is false. Please stop spreading lies.”

🗞️ Background & Context

Skales and Precious Hassanity got married in September 2021, and while their marriage has seen public turbulence, particularly after the death of Skales’ mother in 2022, the artist insists he never spoke publicly in the way the report suggests.

At the time, the rapper released a snippet of a track widely interpreted as a diss directed at his wife, alongside cryptic social media posts like:

“In all you do, make sure you don’t marry a heartless person. Pray for my mental health.”

Though fans speculated about marital issues, there was no confirmation of divorce, and certainly no direct statement matching what went viral this week.

✍️ Opinion: The Dangers of Viral Misinformation in the Digital Age

This incident is yet another reminder of the recklessness of unverified online reports, especially when it involves someone’s personal life and reputation. Public figures like Skales may be in the spotlight, but that doesn’t give people the license to create and spread fiction as fact.

When you combine the emotional toll of personal grief, public scrutiny, and false accusations, it becomes clear that celebrity mental health is too often overlooked. Skales has every right to defend his truth, and his call for ethical reporting is one that more fans and bloggers should heed.
