Former Super Eagles Striker Bids Emotional Farewell to Enyimba FC

Veteran Nigerian striker and former Super Eagles star, Brown Ideye, has officially parted ways with Enyimba FC after the conclusion of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. In an emotional message shared via his social media platform, Ideye expressed deep gratitude to the club, describing his short time with the People’s Elephant as an “honour” and a “wonderful journey.”

The 36-year-old, who joined Enyimba in a highly publicized return to Nigerian football, scored four goals in 10 appearances, showing flashes of brilliance and leadership on and off the pitch.

“To the chairman, staff, my teammates, and fans of Enyimba FC, thank you for the wonderful journey. It’s been an honour to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football clubs in Nigeria and Africa,”
Ideye wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He added,

“As I move on, I’m grateful for the fond memories we created together on and off the pitch, and I appreciate the love, respect, and support you all gave me from day one. This club will always have a great place in my heart.”

💭 Opinion: More Than Just Goals – Ideye’s Return Was Symbolic

Brown Ideye may not have broken goal-scoring records during his Enyimba stint, but his impact goes far beyond the numbers. His return was a statement of belief in the local league, a nod to its growth, and an inspiration to many young talents across Nigeria.

For NPFL watchers, Ideye’s brief stay reminded fans of what veteran experience brings — mentorship, professionalism, and drawing public attention back to a league that often gets overlooked.

As he hangs his boots or possibly seeks one last chapter elsewhere, Nigerian football owes him respect, not only for his exploits with the Super Eagles but for returning to where it all began and finishing strong.
