Portable Slams Verydarkman for Criticizing Davido, Burna Boy & Wizkid

Portable Slams Verydarkman for Criticizing Davido, Burna Boy & Wizkid

Controversial street-hop singer Portable has come to the defence of Afrobeats giants Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid, following recent comments made by outspoken activist Verydarkman.

Verydarkman had earlier taken to social media to criticize the top artists for flaunting their wealth online, alleging that they do little to impact their local communities despite their riches.

But Portable, never one to hold back, fired back at the activist, accusing him of hypocrisy and questioning his credibility.

“How can you say Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy are just buying cars and not helping people?”
“Have you forgotten that Davido donated to charity? Burna Boy gave me N20 million. And you — you used to drink pure water, now you don buy Benz!”

🤔 Opinion: Is It Fair to Judge Impact by Social Media Presence?

This clash opens up a heated debate on celebrity responsibility and online perception. Verydarkman’s point — though blunt — highlights a common concern: Do Nigerian celebrities do enough for their people?

But Portable’s response is equally valid — impact doesn’t always need to be broadcast. Just because an artist doesn’t trend for charity doesn’t mean they aren’t giving back.

Take Davido’s birthday fundraiser in 2021, where he donated over ₦250 million to orphanages across Nigeria. Or Burna Boy’s silent philanthropy, like empowering creatives and supporting grassroots efforts.

And let’s not forget — most of these celebrities are products of humble beginnings. Many are now breadwinners not just for their families, but for entire communities through job creation, giveaways, and social initiatives.

⚖️ The Real Issue? Social Media Pressure

In the age of clout and virality, many people — fans and critics alike — often measure impact by visibility. But real transformation isn’t always trending. That doesn’t excuse every celeb from doing more, but public judgment should be more informed.

Perhaps, instead of fighting over who is more generous, the focus should shift to how to encourage more sustainable giving, accountability, and transparency — not just callouts.

🗣️ What’s your take?
Is Verydarkman raising a valid concern about celebrity culture? Or is Portable right — are these criticisms just noise?
