Olakunle Olusegun Earns Late Call-Up to Super Eagles for Russia Friendly
Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has handed a late invitation to red-hot Krasnodar forward, Olakunle Olusegun, ahead of Nigeria’s international friendly against Russia.
The 23-year-old, a former Golden Eaglets star, is set to join the squad in Moscow on Tuesday morning, bringing with him valuable local knowledge of Russian football — and a champion's mentality.
Olusegun was a key part of the FC Krasnodar team that clinched the Russian Premier League title in the 2024/25 season. Despite his modest goal tally — 10 goals in 70 league appearances — his work rate, versatility, and familiarity with Russian opponents could be a valuable asset in the clash.
The Super Eagles touched down in Moscow on Monday, with 18 players currently in camp and preparations in full swing for Friday’s game at the Luzhniki Stadium.
As the squad shapes up, Nigerian fans will be eager to see how the talented winger blends with the team’s current setup, especially with the inclusion of fresh home-based talents like Sikiru Alimi and Isaac Saviour.
🇳🇬 One to watch? Olakunle is ready. Let’s go, Eagles!
