“Don’t Let Them Go!” – Lee Sharpe Urges Amorim to Keep Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United

“Don’t Let Them Go!” – Lee Sharpe Urges Amorim to Keep Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford at Manchester United

Manchester United legend Lee Sharpe has weighed in on the ongoing transfer speculations surrounding Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford, urging new manager Ruben Amorim to resist the temptation to part ways with the two England internationals.

Sharpe, speaking to AceOdds, passionately defended Shaw’s talent despite his recent injury woes. The former winger described Shaw as “one of the world’s best left-backs on his day,” and emphasized that if fit, no current United player matches Shaw’s quality in that position.

“I think it’s a shame what has happened to Shaw,” Sharpe said.
“If he can stay fit, no one in the club is a better left centre-back than him.”

Shaw, who joined the Red Devils from Southampton in 2014 for a reported €37.5 million, managed just 12 appearances last season due to recurring injuries. Despite this, Sharpe believes his experience and defensive ability still hold significant value for the squad.

On Marcus Rashford, who spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Aston Villa, Sharpe was more cautious:

“It would be a shame if the club lost him, but also I’m not sure if he fits into Amorim’s system.”

Rashford scored six goals in 25 Premier League appearances at Villa — a modest return by his standards. With Amorim reportedly restructuring the attack around younger, more dynamic forwards, Rashford’s role in the team remains uncertain.

💭 Opinion: A Club at a Crossroads

Sharpe’s concerns reflect a broader dilemma facing Manchester United: stick with seasoned names or embrace a full rebuild?

Luke Shaw, when fit, has proven himself at the top level, especially under past managers like Mourinho and Southgate. But his fitness concerns now cast a long shadow over his reliability.

As for Rashford, the situation is trickier. He's a homegrown star, symbolic of the club's academy success — but his form has dipped, and questions about his focus and fit in the current system linger.

Amorim’s decisions on these two could set the tone for his tenure: will he bet on rejuvenating big names, or prioritize a tactical revolution over sentiment?

💬 What do you think, Red Devils? Should Amorim give Shaw and Rashford one more season to prove themselves, or is it time for a clean slate at Old Trafford? Let us know!
