Rangers Set to Launch Women’s Team: “Rangers International Women” on the Horizon

In a major boost for women’s football in Nigeria, Rangers International FC, one of the country’s most historic football clubs, has unveiled plans to launch a women’s team named Rangers International Women.

According to club media director Norbert Okolie, the team is currently undergoing formal processes and may join the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) next season, pending league approval.

“Yes, I can confirm that machinery is in motion to get a women’s team,” Okolie told TalkTalk Nigeria.
“Their participation in the NWFL will be determined by paperwork.”

This move follows Rangers' previous collaboration with Green Foot Ladies, an initiative aimed at satisfying CAF’s club licensing requirement for continental competitions, while also encouraging grassroots support for women’s football.

🧠 Why This Matters

Rangers stepping into women’s football is not just a formality — it's a statement. A club with such heritage now investing in female football signifies growing respect, opportunity, and seriousness in the women’s game.

It’s about time top clubs in Nigeria, especially those in the NPFL, embrace this dual-front model. The growth of the NWFL has been remarkable in recent years, and having traditional powerhouses like Rangers involved will only accelerate that momentum.

💬 Fan Opinions Pouring In:

“It’s long overdue. We need more elite clubs with women's teams.”
“Can’t wait to see Rangers Int’l Women light up the NWFL.”
“Next stop: Enyimba should do the same!”

Our Take:

This move by Rangers is not only progressive but necessary. Women’s football in Nigeria is full of untapped potential, and with the right structure, funding, and visibility, the next generation of Super Falcons could be born from projects like this.

Let’s hope the paperwork flies through and Rangers International Women becomes a force to reckon with soon!
