Manchester United Confirm Exit of Eriksen, Evans, Lindelof & Others in Summer Shake-Up
Manchester United have officially submitted their retained players list to the Premier League, confirming a significant summer clear-out as the club braces for another rebuild ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
Among the most notable departures are midfield maestro Christian Eriksen, veteran defender Jonny Evans, and long-serving Swedish international Victor Lindelof — all of whom will leave the club following the expiration of their contracts.
👋 Farewell to Familiar Faces
🔴 Christian Eriksen bows out after a touching 108th and final appearance, in which he calmly converted a penalty to help United secure a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the season. Despite limited minutes this term, Eriksen’s professionalism and experience were always valued in the dressing room.
🔴 Victor Lindelof, often the subject of debate among fans, walks away after 284 appearances in red. Signed in 2017 from Benfica, the Swede brought stability at times, though his consistency was frequently questioned.
🔴 Jonny Evans, who made a surprise return to United in 2023, departs again after racking up 241 total appearances. His leadership and composure were critical during an injury-hit season.
🧤 Goalkeeping Future Uncertain
Veteran shot-stopper Tom Heaton is also listed among players set for release. However, talks remain ongoing for a potential short-term extension, hinting that United may still want his experience between the sticks or in the locker room.
🧒 Academy Talent Released
In addition to the senior exits, the club has also confirmed the release of several academy players:
Hubert Graczyk
Jack Kingdon
Sam Murray
Tom Myles
James Nolan
Tom Wooster
While many of these names may not have broken into the first team, their departure signifies a reshuffling of the youth structure.
💬 Opinion: A Necessary Reset or Sentimental Slip?
Manchester United fans will have mixed emotions. While the exits make room for fresh blood and a tactical reboot under Erik ten Hag (or his successor, should change come), there’s a touch of nostalgia and sentimentality — especially with Evans and Eriksen, whose experience and calm presence were invaluable at times.
The real question: Is this just the beginning of a larger exodus? If United truly want to challenge for silverware again, ruthless decisions — like these — might be the only way forward.
⚽ What are your thoughts on United’s released list? Which player will you miss the most — and who should they sign next?
