Charly Boy on the Hunt for a Wife for His 46-Year-Old Son

Charly Boy on the Hunt for a Wife for His 46-Year-Old Son

Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has revealed that he is actively searching for a wife for his son.

In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Charly Boy shared details about his son, noting that he is 46 years old, a master’s degree holder, and stands 5ft 11ins tall.

The maverick singer explained that his son was previously married but divorced, and now seems to have developed a fear of women.

Despite this, Charly Boy expressed optimism that his son could still find love, but insisted on specific qualities in a potential partner. According to him, only “authentic graduates” from good homes with humble beginnings need apply.

“My people, I still dey look for wife for dis my son.
E don marry once, divorce. Now, e be like say e dey fear woman.
Biko, if you’re from a good home with humble beginnings, DM me.
He is a masters degree holder, age 46. 5ft 11ins. Very humble.
If you’re not an authentic graduate don’t bother.
I need to tie him to Nigeria,” he wrote.

Charly Boy also revealed that his son, whom he described as “very humble”, will be returning to Nigeria next month, and he hopes to settle him down through marriage.

Opinion: Love, Marriage, and the Weight of Expectations

Charly Boy’s openness about his son’s private life may raise eyebrows, but it also shines a light on the cultural tension between personal choice and parental expectations. In Nigeria, parents often feel a deep responsibility to ensure their children marry “well,” sometimes even stepping in when love seems to stall.

While some may see this as overbearing, others might view it as an act of care—especially from a father who, despite his flamboyant public image, clearly desires stability and companionship for his child.

Yet, the bigger question lingers: Should marriage be treated as a checkbox to complete or as a journey to embrace at one’s pace? At 46, Charly Boy’s son is no longer a young man, but perhaps that also means he knows what he truly wants—or fears.

In the end, Charly Boy’s post reflects a common African reality: family involvement in matters of the heart. Whether his son finds love through his father’s “advertisement” or on his own terms, one thing is clear—the search for love, no matter the age, remains a universal pursuit.
