Rapper DDG Announces Plans to Relocate to Lagos Amid Custody Battle with Halle Bailey

Rapper DDG Announces Plans to Relocate to Lagos Amid Custody Battle with Halle Bailey

American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., popularly known as DDG, has revealed his plans to relocate to Lagos, Nigeria, as he navigates a highly publicized custody battle with his ex-girlfriend, actress and singer Halle Bailey, over their 17-month-old son, Halo.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), DDG wrote:
“I’m so tired of living in LA. I can’t wait til I move to Lagos, Nigeria.”

This is not the first time the rapper has hinted at leaving the United States. In January 2025, he suggested he was considering a move to either London or Lagos, citing dissatisfaction with life in America.

His legal troubles with Bailey have remained in the public eye, with the actress previously alleging physical and emotional abuse and securing a temporary restraining order against him.

Opinion: Lagos as an Escape or a Fresh Start?

DDG’s declaration has sparked conversations not just about his personal struggles, but also about Lagos as a rising global hub. For years, the Nigerian city has been celebrated as Africa’s heartbeat for music, culture, and creativity. It’s not far-fetched to see why DDG might be drawn to Lagos — after all, Afrobeats has gone global, and the city offers a raw, buzzing energy that many international stars now crave.

However, the timing of his announcement raises questions. Is this move a genuine desire for a fresh start in a city that thrives on artistry and resilience, or is it a reaction to the pressure and scrutiny he faces in the U.S.? Relocating to Lagos could give him a chance to reinvent himself musically and personally, but it will also mean adapting to a drastically different environment — one that comes with its own challenges.

What’s clear, though, is that Lagos has evolved into more than just Nigeria’s commercial capital; it’s now a destination where international stars seek refuge, inspiration, and identity. If DDG truly makes the leap, his story could mark another chapter in Lagos’ growing influence on the global entertainment stage.
