Power Dynamos Fired Up Ahead of Rivers United Clash After League Win
Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa has expressed confidence in his side’s readiness for their CAF Champions League showdown against Rivers United, describing their recent domestic victory as a timely morale booster.
The Zambian champions edged Mufulira Wanderers 1–0 in a league encounter over the weekend, a result Mutapa believes has come at the perfect moment as continental action resumes.
Power Dynamos will welcome the Pride of Rivers to the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola, on Saturday in a crucial group-stage fixture, before both sides meet again in the reverse tie in Uyo next week.
“We Are Fully Equipped” — Mutapa
Speaking to Power Dynamos’ media team, Mutapa highlighted the importance of squad depth and experience as key advantages ahead of the clash.
“The victory over Mufulira Wanderers is a big boost ahead of Rivers United’s match,” Mutapa said.
“We have a pool of players to execute the game. Even when you make changes, it won’t affect our game, as we have played four games on the continent.”
His comments underline the confidence within the Dynamos camp, especially with the team already battle-tested in CAF competition this season.
A Tough Test for Rivers United
For Rivers United, the fixture presents a significant challenge. The Nigerian side are still searching for their first points in the group stage, making the Ndola encounter a must-get-something game before returning home to Uyo.
Power Dynamos, buoyed by home support and recent form, will see this as an opportunity to consolidate their position and put pressure on their Nigerian opponents ahead of the reverse fixture.
Opinion: Momentum vs Urgency
While Power Dynamos approach the game with momentum and confidence, Rivers United arrive with urgency and desperation—a combination that often produces high-intensity encounters.
Mutapa’s confidence in squad depth could prove decisive, especially in managing the physical demands of continental football. However, Rivers United have enough experience to frustrate hosts if they stay compact and disciplined.
This clash may well be decided not just by tactics, but by who handles pressure better. Power Dynamos have the comfort of form and home advantage; Rivers United have the hunger of a team with little room for error. Either way, fans can expect a fiercely contested CAF Champions League battle.
