Rangers Ready for Federation Cup Battle as Flying Antelopes Target Another Deep Run
Enugu Rangers have expressed full readiness ahead of their 2026 President Federation Cup campaign, as the “Flying Antelopes” prepare to begin their quest for domestic silverware once again.
The Nigerian giants will face Nigeria National League side Godswill Akpabio FC in the Round of 64 of the competition. The encounter is scheduled for Tuesday, 19 May at the Enyimba International Stadium.
In a confident message shared on their social media platforms, Rangers made their intentions clear ahead of the knockout clash.
“President Federation Cup campaign begins with a Round of 64 clash against Godswill Akpabio FC,” the club wrote.
“Ready for the fight. Ready for the challenge.”
The Enugu-based side will be hoping to improve on last season’s impressive run, where they reached the semi-final stage of the competition. Despite their strong performances in recent years, Rangers last lifted the prestigious Nigeria’s oldest cup competition in 2018.
Opinion
Rangers’ early statement of intent shows a team that understands the weight of expectation that comes with wearing their badge. In Nigerian football, history matters — and for a club with Rangers’ pedigree, anything short of challenging for the trophy often feels like underachievement.
However, cup competitions are rarely straightforward. Facing a lower-league opponent like Godswill Akpabio FC might look like a comfortable fixture on paper, but the Federation Cup is known for surprises and upsets. That unpredictability is exactly what makes it special.
If Rangers truly want to end their long wait since 2018, consistency and focus will matter more than reputation. Their recent semi-final run proves they are close — but the real test is turning potential into silverware when it matters most.
