Danjuma Defends Nasarawa Amazons Defeat, Says Focus Is on Super Six Preparation

Danjuma Defends Nasarawa Amazons Defeat, Says Focus Is on Super Six Preparation

Head coach Christopher Danjuma has defended Nasarawa Amazons’s 2–1 defeat to Robo Queens in their final game of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League regular season.

The encounter, played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Wednesday, saw Robo Queens edge the Amazons in a competitive contest ahead of the highly anticipated NWFL Super Six playoffs.

Despite the loss, Danjuma insisted the result was secondary to evaluating the depth and readiness of his squad.

“We used this game to test the strength of the squad and give opportunities to players who haven’t had enough playing time,” he said after the match.

“Every game counts, and this is part of our preparation for the next competition.”

Nasarawa Amazons will now shift attention to the Super Six tournament, where they are set to compete against defending champions Bayelsa Queens, alongside Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Abia Angels and Robo Queens.

Opinion: Sometimes Defeat Reveals More Than Victory

Christopher Danjuma’s explanation may frustrate some fans, but it reflects a common reality in competitive football—preparation sometimes matters more than short-term results.

For teams already focused on playoff football, squad rotation and experimentation become necessary risks. Coaches need to know which players can deliver under pressure, especially in tournaments where injuries, fatigue, and suspensions can quickly change plans.

Still, there’s a fine balance.

Losing momentum before a major competition can affect confidence, and facing Robo Queens again in the Super Six means the psychological edge may now lean slightly toward the Lagos side.

The bigger challenge for Nasarawa Amazons is consistency. The Super Six is unforgiving, with experienced sides like Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels capable of punishing even minor weaknesses.

Danjuma’s gamble will only be judged by one thing: results in the playoffs.

Because in football, experimentation is respected when it leads to success—but questioned when it doesn’t.
