Tems Reveals Why She Would Not Pursue Romance With Nigerian Male Celebrities
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has explained why she would not make romantic moves toward Nigerian male celebrities, saying she views them more like family.
The “Love Me Jeje” singer shared her thoughts during an interview at the BET Awards after she was asked whether she would approach Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye if given the opportunity.
Tems admitted that she knows who the footballer is but said she does not personally know him. However, she explained that being fellow Nigerians in the entertainment and public space changes how she sees relationships with male celebrities.
“I know who Maduka Okoye is but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though. But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here,” she said.
“We [Nigerian celebrities] befriend each other and we are family. I see my male colleagues as brothers.”
Her comments have sparked discussions among fans, with many appreciating her view of maintaining professional relationships and boundaries within Nigeria’s celebrity circle.
For Tems, who has built an international career and become one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports, it appears that friendship, respect, and shared identity take priority over turning celebrity connections into romantic relationships.
