‘I’m Alive and Healthy’ – Nollywood Actor Owolabi Ajasa Dismisses Viral Death Rumours

‘I’m Alive and Healthy’ – Nollywood Actor Owolabi Ajasa Dismisses Viral Death Rumours

Veteran Nollywood actor Owolabi Ajasa, widely recognised for his memorable police roles and the popular catchphrase “Ta lo pa chief”, has dismissed viral reports claiming that he has died.

The false reports gained traction after an obituary poster bearing the actor’s name and photograph began circulating across social media platforms, causing concern among fans and colleagues.

In response, Ajasa shared a video on Instagram to reassure the public that he is alive and in good health.

“Good day everyone, my name still remains Owolabi Ajasa, your Nollywood police officer. I want to tell all my fans both in Nigeria and abroad that I’m still much alive. I’m alive, hale and hearty. There’s nothing wrong with me.”

The actor also condemned those responsible for spreading the fake obituary, expressing frustration over the increasing trend of false reports targeting celebrities.

He went on to call out platforms that circulate unverified stories about him and other entertainers, adding:

“To everyone posting my obituary around, I’m saying back to the sender—to you and your family.”

His clarification has brought relief to many fans who were alarmed by the misleading obituary that spread rapidly online.

The incident is the latest in a series of celebrity death hoaxes that have surfaced on social media, highlighting the dangers of misinformation and the emotional distress such false reports can cause to families, friends and supporters.

Opinion

Fake death announcements are among the most damaging forms of online misinformation. Beyond misleading the public, they can cause unnecessary panic for relatives, friends and fans while unfairly affecting the reputation and emotional well-being of the person involved.

Ajasa's prompt response helped dispel the rumours, but the episode serves as another reminder of the importance of verifying information before sharing it. In an era where false stories can spread within minutes, responsible reporting and careful fact-checking remain essential.
