Super Eagles Remain 26th in Latest FIFA Rankings, Drop to Fourth in Africa
Nigeria's Super Eagles have maintained their 26th position in the latest FIFA Men's World Rankings released on Monday, but the three-time African champions have slipped to fourth place among African nations.
Despite holding steady in the global standings, Nigeria were overtaken on the continental rankings after Egypt's impressive performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Pharaohs reached the Round of 16 before suffering a narrow 3-2 defeat to Argentina, earning enough ranking points to move into third place in Africa.
The Super Eagles were last in action in June, when they lost 2-1 to Portugal in an international friendly, a result that did little to improve their standing.
At the top of African football, Morocco remain the continent's highest-ranked nation after reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup. The Atlas Lions also climbed one place globally to sixth.
Senegal retained second place in Africa despite dropping three places in the world rankings, while Algeria complete the continent's top five in fifth position.

On the global stage, newly crowned World Cup champions Spain reclaimed the No. 1 ranking following their triumph in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Defending champions Argentina dropped to second after losing the World Cup final, while France, England, and Brazil round out the world's top five.
FIFA confirmed that the next edition of the men's world rankings will be published on October 7, 2026.
