Funke Akindele Fires Back at Troll Over Nylon Packaging Criticism

Funke Akindele Fires Back at Troll Over Nylon Packaging Criticism

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has clapped back at a troll who mocked her for using nylon bags to share food with her guests.

The actress had earlier taken to her Snapchat page to post a video showing how she treated some of her crew members who visited her home. While many praised her humility and hospitality, a critic singled out the choice of yellow and black nylon bags, calling it “un-posh.”

“Aunty Funke, you are not posh at all. Why yellow and black nylon?” the troll wrote.

Funke, known for her wit and no-nonsense personality, wasted no time in responding. She fired back:

“Oh maybe I need to go and get plastic bags from Macy’s or Nordstrom. Elenu shipoti, you can come and buy nylon for me. I already blocked you. It’s a privilege for you to be seeing my snap. At least you can see I am an elderly person even if I am not old enough to be your mum. Wide mouth.”

Opinion: When Generosity Meets Misplaced Standards

Funke’s response is more than just a clapback—it raises a subtle but important question about society’s obsession with appearances over substance. In a culture where people often equate generosity with luxury packaging or extravagance, we sometimes forget the heart behind the gesture.

What truly matters is not the color of the nylon bag, but the fact that she opened her doors and shared with those who work with her. Many Nigerians will agree that such humble acts of kindness carry more weight than expensive but empty displays of “poshness.”

Funke’s decision to respond directly shows her unwillingness to let misplaced standards overshadow genuine hospitality. It’s a reminder that kindness doesn’t need to be designer-branded—it just needs to be sincere.
