Mr. Real Opens Up on “Legbegbe” Regrets, Missed Wizkid Remix

Mr. Real Opens Up on “Legbegbe” Regrets, Missed Wizkid Remix

Nigerian singer Victor Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Real, has revealed that he regrets featuring Idowest on his smash hit “Legbegbe,” claiming the decision limited the song’s potential and stalled his career trajectory.

Speaking in a candid interview on Hip TV Trending, Mr. Real explained that releasing the 2017 hit as a solo project could have elevated him to the same heights as Burna Boy and Wizkid.

“I regret bringing Idowest into that song… I wish I had sung that song alone. If I had sung that song alone, I’d be on the same level as Burna Boy and Wizkid,” he lamented.

The singer also disclosed that a planned remix with Wizkid was scrapped due to complications he alleged involved D’banj. According to him, that missed collaboration was a major turning point, as it could have pushed Legbegbe beyond Nigeria and into global acclaim.

Despite these setbacks, Legbegbe still became a street anthem, dominating airwaves, clubs, and playlists, and cementing Mr. Real as a household name at the time.

Opinion: Lessons in Timing, Collaboration, and Industry Politics

Mr. Real’s reflections highlight the fragile balance between opportunity and decision-making in the Nigerian music industry. A single feature, a delayed rollout, or behind-the-scenes politics can make or break an artist’s trajectory.

While collaborations can elevate a track, they can also dilute credit or complicate negotiations—as Mr. Real now feels happened with Legbegbe. His story is also a reminder of how industry politics and personal choices often rob artists of golden chances, sometimes leaving them to live with “what ifs.”

Yet, there’s another angle: regret is part of growth. Legbegbe still gave Mr. Real a solid place in Afrobeats history. And while he may not be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Burna Boy or Wizkid today, his honesty resonates with many fans who understand how tough the climb in the entertainment world truly is.

After all, in music—as in life—sometimes the opportunities missed become the fuel for reinvention.
