Seyi Shay Opens Up on Her Creative Bond and Friendship With Wizkid: “He’s Like a Magician”
Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has spoken warmly about her long-standing professional and personal relationship with Afrobeats icon Wizkid, describing him as “a magician” and “inhumanly talented.”
The “Irawo” crooner made the revelation during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, where she discussed the early days of their collaboration and the mentorship she received from the Made in Lagos superstar.
Seyi Shay disclosed that she and Wizkid worked together on multiple projects, including her song “Crazy” and one of his own tracks, while she also provided backing vocals for several of his records.
“I did Crazy with Wizkid. I featured him on the song, and he featured me on one of his songs. I also did backing vocals for a couple of his other songs then. We became genuine friends,” she recalled.
Speaking about his extraordinary creativity, Seyi Shay said:
“I realised that he is actually so smart and so talented. I have seen him record while eating, and that was mad to me. I don’t know where he gets his inspiration from — he is like a magician. My spirit, my soul, everything resonates with people that are inhumanly talented.”
Beyond music, the singer revealed that Wizkid also served as a mentor who offered her valuable advice on how to navigate the unpredictable Nigerian entertainment industry.
“He used to advise me a lot and used to tell me how people behave in this industry,” she added.
