Nollywood Mourns Veteran Actor Baba Gebu

Nollywood Mourns Veteran Actor Baba Gebu

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the passing of veteran actor Prince Oyewole Olowomojuore, popularly known as Baba Gebu.

Nollywood actor Kunle Afod announced the sad news on Instagram, revealing that Baba Gebu passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, after battling an undisclosed illness.

In an emotional post, Afod described the late actor as a “great legend” and prayed for his soul to rest in peace, sharing pictures honoring his legacy.

"It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU may your soul rest in peace," Afod wrote.

Baba Gebu had a distinguished career in Nollywood, particularly in Yoruba-language cinema, and contributed to numerous major productions. In 2024, he had spoken publicly about the death of his wife, sharing that returning to acting helped him cope and avoid depression. Many colleagues in the industry supported him in his journey to remain active in the movie world.

Opinion: A Gentle Legend Leaves a Lasting Mark

Baba Gebu’s passing is a profound loss for Nollywood. He embodied the rich tradition of Yoruba cinema and inspired many younger actors with his dedication, talent, and humility. Beyond his on-screen performances, his resilience in the face of personal tragedy—continuing to act after losing his wife—showcases his remarkable strength of character.

The industry and fans alike will remember Baba Gebu not only for his memorable roles but also for the warmth and mentorship he offered to his peers. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those he entertained and inspired throughout his illustrious career.
