Merson: Arsenal Will Win the Premier League If They Beat Chelsea on Sunday

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes the Premier League title race could be as good as decided this weekend—if Arsenal beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners head into the highly anticipated London Derby six points ahead of Chelsea and in blistering form, having defeated Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich in their last two outings.

A victory on Sunday would see Mikel Arteta’s side opening up a commanding nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson didn’t hold back on the importance of the clash.

“This is a Super Sunday. Chelsea vs Arsenal is a massive football match,” he said.

“If Arsenal win it, I think it is good night nurse. I think it will be all over.

“They won’t be caught and they’ll just blow everyone away.”

Arsenal will surely travel to Stamford Bridge with confidence, but the Blues will be desperate to spoil the party and keep their own title hopes alive.

Opinion: Is Merson Right—Will a Win End the Title Race?

Merson’s statement is dramatic, but he might not be far off the mark.

A nine-point gap before Christmas is enormous in modern football, especially when the team at the top plays with the control, composure, and killer instinct Arsenal have shown this season.

What makes Arsenal dangerous right now?
✔ Their defense is the tightest it has been in years
✔ Their attack is fluid, fast, and fearless
✔ They’re beating big clubs with clinical maturity
✔ Their confidence is skyrocketing after taking down Bayern and Spurs

However, the Premier League is notoriously unpredictable. A long season, injuries, and fixture congestion can shift momentum quickly. Chelsea, despite trailing, are still a strong side capable of derailing Arsenal’s rhythm.

But if Arsenal win convincingly on Sunday, one thing becomes clear:
This isn’t just a title charge — it’s a title statement.

A nine-point lead would not just be mathematical dominance; it would be psychological dominance too. And those are the gaps that destroy rivals long before May.

For now, all eyes turn to Stamford Bridge — where Arsenal have the chance to make the boldest declaration of the season.
