Paul Merson Predicts Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool Wins Ahead of Premier League Weekend

Paul Merson Predicts Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool Wins Ahead of Premier League Weekend

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has shared his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, with some bold calls ahead of what promises to be a thrilling round of matches.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will host Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s early kick-off at the Emirates, and Merson has tipped the Gunners to claim a 2-0 win.

Elsewhere, Chelsea fans will be hopeful after the former midfielder backed the Blues to edge Brentford 1-0 away from home. Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, are predicted to snatch a narrow 2-1 victory over West Ham United in a tricky London derby.

At the top of the table, Liverpool — who currently lead the league — are expected to continue their charge with a 2-0 win at Burnley.

But perhaps Merson’s most eye-catching call comes in Sunday’s Manchester derby. Despite City’s dominance in recent years, he has predicted a 1-1 draw at the Etihad, a result that would hand a major boost to Arsenal and Liverpool in the title race.

Here are Merson’s full predictions, via Sportskeeda:

  • Arsenal 2-0 Nottingham Forest

  • Bournemouth 2-1 Brighton

  • Newcastle United 3-0 Wolves

  • Everton 2-0 Aston Villa

  • Crystal Palace 2-0 Sunderland

  • Fulham 2-0 Leeds United

  • West Ham 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

  • Brentford 0-1 Chelsea

  • Burnley 0-2 Liverpool

  • Manchester City 1-1 Manchester United

Opinion: Are Merson’s Predictions Too Safe?

Merson is known for being bold with his punditry, but this week’s predictions feel fairly conservative — banking on the “big boys” like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea to win, while throwing in a safe derby draw between City and United.

But football is rarely predictable. Nottingham Forest have pulled off surprises against top-six teams before, while United’s inconsistency makes a derby draw seem generous. On the other hand, Chelsea still haven’t found true rhythm, and Brentford away is never easy.

That’s the beauty of the Premier League: while logic says one thing, passion, drama, and unpredictability often write a different script. If Merson gets all 10 spot on, then maybe we should all start betting with his slip.
