Wale Opens Up on Role in Wizkid’s Rise to Global Fame

Wale Opens Up on Role in Wizkid’s Rise to Global Fame

Nigerian-American rapper Wale has shared fascinating insights into his long-standing friendship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, revealing the part he played in helping the singer gain international recognition.

Speaking during a lively livestream with comedian and content creator Carter Efe, Wale recounted how he introduced Wizkid to global platforms and provided support early in his career. He described the singer as his “boy” and revealed that he once hosted Wizkid in Beverly Hills, California, for an entire summer, where they wrote and produced music together.

“I have been following Nigerian music, there are so many Nigerian artists that I like listening to. Some I know personally like Wizkid. Me and Wizkid have been cool for almost 10 years now. I remember taking him to his first BET Awards show,” Wale said. “That is my boy. I once accommodated him at Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were just writing music. We made a lot of songs together like ‘Drop for me.’”

Opinion: Wale’s revelation underscores the often unseen role international collaborators play in propelling African artists to global stardom. While Wizkid’s talent is undeniable, Wale’s mentorship and early support helped bridge the gap between local acclaim and worldwide recognition. This story is a reminder of the power of collaboration, networks, and friendship in building global music careers—proving that success is rarely a solo journey.
