Dat Warri Girl Shares Hilarious Family Story, Sparks Reflection on Gender Bias
Nigerian media personality and actress Tomama, popularly known as Dat Warri Girl, has recounted a humorous yet thought-provoking story about her mother’s first husband.
In a recent social media post, Tomama revealed that her mother was abandoned by her first husband simply because she bore only daughters. The man went on to remarry multiple times, continuing to have daughters, until finally, in his seventh marriage, he had a son. However, when the boy later tried to travel abroad, a DNA test revealed that he was not biologically his father’s son.
Tomama couldn’t hide her amusement at her mother’s ex-husband’s misfortunes, noting that her mother later remarried and had three sons.
Reacting to the story, actor and media personality Uti Nwachukwu shared his thoughts on the issue of gender preference and misplaced blame:
"Plenty men no know say the things wey dem de blame women for na dem be the cause. Gone are those days o. Them don discover say even the survival of the foetus depends on the QUALITY of the man's sperm! Not the woman's age, womb or ovaries… anyone that still prioritizes one gender above the other does not deserve peace in their mistreatment of others!"
Opinion: Tomama’s story, while humorous, shines a light on the deep-seated societal bias that unfairly places the burden of producing a son on women. Uti Nwachukwu’s reaction reminds us that biological realities often challenge these outdated beliefs. Beyond the laughter, the tale is a subtle lesson on fairness, respect, and understanding in familial and marital expectations—highlighting that the obsession with gender can lead to unnecessary hardship and missed happiness.
