Davido Urges Imo Governor to Guarantee Peaceful Osun Election, Calls for Fairness Ahead of Poll
Afrobeats superstar Davido has appealed to the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, to ensure a peaceful and transparent process ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
Speaking during a press conference, Davido expressed concerns over alleged rumours of possible interference in the election, while stressing that his comments were an appeal rather than an accusation. He urged the governor to use his position and influence to promote peace and allow residents of Osun State to freely choose their preferred candidates.
The singer noted that his appeal carried personal significance because of his connection to Imo State through his wife, Chioma Adeleke, who is from the state.
Davido called on all stakeholders to avoid turning Osun into a political battleground and encouraged leaders to prioritise the interests of the people.
“I have a deep connection to Imo State; my wife, Chioma, is from your state, which makes this appeal more sincere. Please, let Osun remain peaceful,” he stated.
The singer’s comments come after the Imo governor was reportedly appointed to play a key role in the electoral process for the Osun governorship election. Davido has remained outspoken on political matters in recent years, particularly concerning elections in Osun and other states.
The musician was actively involved in his uncle Ademola Adeleke’s governorship campaign and openly celebrated his victory. He has also previously criticised political developments and called for electoral fairness during other state elections.
