Davido Declares for Accord Party, Aligns with Uncle Ahead of Osun 2026 Election

Davido Declares for Accord Party, Aligns with Uncle Ahead of Osun 2026 Election

Award-winning Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has officially declared his alignment with the Accord Party, joining his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The music star made the announcement on Tuesday via his verified 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle, revealing plans to travel to Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to formally collect his party membership card.

“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY,” Davido wrote, while also tagging Governor Adeleke.

Davido’s declaration comes barely two weeks after Governor Adeleke officially adopted the Accord Party as his new political platform following his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor announced his defection on December 9, 2025, at the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.

Governor Adeleke explained that his decision to leave the PDP was driven by the lingering leadership crisis at the national level of the party. He disclosed that he formally joined the Accord Party on November 6 after extensive consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across Osun State.

The move marked a major political realignment in the state, with Adeleke declaring his intention to seek re-election under the Accord Party to safeguard political stability and his second-term ambition.

Davido had earlier fueled speculation about his political stance after reposting news of his uncle’s resignation from the PDP with the cryptic caption, “Jeje…”. His latest announcement now confirms his full political alignment with the Osun governor as preparations for the 2026 election gather momentum.

Opinion: Celebrity Influence Meets Political Loyalty

Davido’s entry into partisan politics, though not entirely surprising, adds an interesting dimension to Osun State’s evolving political landscape. As one of Africa’s most influential entertainers, his open alignment with the Accord Party could significantly amplify visibility and public interest, especially among younger demographics.

However, beyond the star power, this move also reflects a strong sense of family loyalty and shared political direction. Davido has never hidden his support for his uncle’s leadership, and this formal step suggests a deeper commitment than symbolic endorsements.

While celebrity involvement does not automatically translate into electoral success, it often shapes narratives and energizes conversations. As Osun moves closer to 2026, the intersection of pop culture and politics is set to play a notable role—one that could redefine engagement, participation, and political branding in the state.

For now, Davido’s declaration signals that the Adeleke political camp is not just consolidating power, but also drawing strength from influence beyond traditional politics.
