‘We’ll Meet on the Field’ — Davido Reacts as APC Appoints Hope Uzodimma to Lead Osun Campaign

‘We’ll Meet on the Field’ — Davido Reacts as APC Appoints Hope Uzodimma to Lead Osun Campaign

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted to the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s decision to appoint Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as Chairman of the party's National Campaign Council for the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

The APC announced Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors' Forum, as the party's campaign leader ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Responding to the development on social media, Davido acknowledged his admiration for the Imo State governor but suggested that political differences would take precedence during the election.

"Chai, and I like Hope o. My wife's state. Hmmm. No worry, we go meet for field," the singer wrote, implying that they would be on opposing sides during the campaign.

Davido's wife, Chioma, is from Imo State, making the governor's appointment a personal point of interest for the award-winning musician.

The singer has become one of Nigeria's most politically vocal entertainers in recent years, particularly in Osun State, where his family has deep political roots.

During previous governorship elections in the state, Davido actively campaigned for his uncle and celebrated publicly after his electoral victory. He has also consistently used his social media platforms to comment on political developments, election processes, and governance issues.

Only days before reacting to Uzodimma's appointment, Davido made headlines after criticizing former presidential aide Reno Omokri and describing former Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola as "the most desperate politician in the world," although he did not elaborate on the reason for the remark.

His latest comments underline his continued interest in the political landscape ahead of what is expected to be a closely watched governorship election in Osun State.

Opinion: Davido Continues to Blur the Line Between Entertainment and Politics

Davido has never hidden his passion for politics, especially when it concerns Osun State. Unlike many celebrities who avoid political discussions, he has consistently used his influence to campaign, mobilize supporters, and express his views on electoral matters.

His latest reaction to Hope Uzodimma's appointment appears respectful yet politically charged. By saying, "we go meet for field," Davido acknowledged his personal regard for the governor while making it clear that political competition comes first.

Celebrity involvement in politics often attracts mixed reactions. Supporters argue that public figures have every right to participate in democratic processes, while critics believe entertainers should remain neutral. Regardless of where one stands, Davido's engagement has made him one of the most politically active musicians in Nigeria.

As the Osun governorship election approaches, his influence is likely to remain a significant talking point. Whether it translates into political impact will ultimately be determined by the voters at the ballot box.
