Peller Dismisses Fears Over TikTok Nighttime Ban, Highlights Livelihood of Creators

Popular Nigerian TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, has addressed concerns surrounding TikTok’s temporary restriction on nighttime live streams in Nigeria, assuring fans that the move will not affect his financial stability.

The platform had issued an in-app notice to creators late Sunday, temporarily limiting LIVE broadcasts during late-night hours as part of a safety investigation. The restriction also blocked Nigerian users from viewing international LIVE streams during the affected period.

Reacting on Instagram, Peller downplayed fears that the suspension would hurt his income. He explained that his financial portfolio extends far beyond TikTok, including multiple brand ambassadorships, each worth no less than ₦40 million. He also emphasized the value of his long-term partnerships and the diversified nature of his digital presence.

“People think I’ll go hungry because of this TikTok ban. My earnings are not dependent solely on live streams,” he said. Peller further noted that he regularly engages with fans through giveaways, demonstrating that TikTok is only one of several avenues contributing to his visibility and success.

Beyond his personal experience, Peller highlighted TikTok’s role in empowering young Nigerians, enabling creators to grow audiences and earn income faster than on other platforms. He urged policymakers and platform managers to weigh the economic impact of such restrictions, stressing that livestreaming provides essential opportunities for emerging talents.

💭 Opinion & Analysis

Peller’s response underscores a broader point: while social media platforms are often criticized for misuse or safety concerns, they also serve as critical income sources for young creatives in Nigeria. The temporary TikTok ban may be intended as a safety measure, but it inadvertently reminds us how digital opportunities and livelihoods are intertwined.

Creators like Peller exemplify how talent, branding, and multiple revenue streams can safeguard financial stability even when platform policies shift. At the same time, emerging users may feel the pinch, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that protects both user safety and economic opportunities.

TikTok’s role in shaping the Nigerian digital economy cannot be underestimated, and this incident is a timely reminder that restrictions, however temporary, have real-world implications for creators and audiences alike.
