Christian Eriksen Defends Rasmus Hojlund, Insists Manchester United’s Goal Woes Are a Team Problem

Christian Eriksen Defends Rasmus Hojlund, Insists Manchester United’s Goal Woes Are a Team Problem

Manchester United midfielder, Christian Eriksen, has jumped to the defense of his struggling compatriot, Rasmus Hojlund, amid heavy criticism over the young striker’s underwhelming performances this season. The Danish international has been the subject of frustration for United fans, especially after missing a golden opportunity to secure a win during the club’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.

Hojlund, who has only scored twice in 23 Premier League games, has been criticized for failing to deliver as the Red Devils’ primary number nine. However, Eriksen believes the problem is not solely Hojlund’s fault but rather a collective issue within the team.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Eriksen remarked,

“I am pretty confident that he will come good. He is a hard-working guy, and he is unhappy when he doesn’t score goals. But you can name about ten other players in the team who don’t score enough goals. He is a good kid; he will be fine.”

Opinion: Is Eriksen Right to Shift the Blame from Hojlund?

Eriksen’s comments reflect the broader struggles of Manchester United this season. While Hojlund’s stats of seven goals and one assist in 37 appearances are far from impressive, it’s essential to acknowledge that United’s attacking system as a whole has been less than effective.

The team’s creativity has been questionable, and the lack of quality service to Hojlund has undoubtedly contributed to his underwhelming performances. If a striker doesn’t get the necessary support and supply, expecting consistent goal-scoring becomes unrealistic.

However, Eriksen’s statement also raises a valid point about the lack of goal-scoring contributions from other players. Football is a team game, and the blame shouldn’t be placed entirely on one individual. For United to turn things around, the entire squad needs to step up and share the goal-scoring burden.

But will the Red Devils’ struggles in attack continue to haunt them this season, or can Hojlund and his teammates find the right rhythm to change their fortunes? Only time will tell.

What’s your take on Eriksen’s comments? Do you agree that Hojlund is being unfairly criticized?
