Flying Eagles Edge Morak FC 2-1 in Final Warm-Up Ahead of U-20 AFCON Campaign

Flying Eagles Edge Morak FC 2-1 in Final Warm-Up Ahead of U-20 AFCON Campaign

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles wrapped up their local preparations for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 2-1 victory over Morak FC in a tightly contested test match.

Kparobo Arierhi and Precious Benjamin found the back of the net for the seven-time African champions, giving the fans a glimpse of the attacking potential within Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s squad. The friendly, played in Abuja, served as the final tune-up ahead of their journey to Cairo, Egypt.

The team is scheduled to depart for Egypt on Sunday, where they will engage in two additional friendly matches to fine-tune their tactics and team chemistry before the tournament kicks off.

🔥 Group B Battles Await

Drawn in a competitive Group B, the Flying Eagles will lock horns with Tunisia, Kenya, and Morocco in the group stage. Their opening match is set for May 1st against Tunisia, followed by fixtures against Morocco and Kenya.

This group offers a mix of tactical discipline (Tunisia), flair and unpredictability (Morocco), and raw potential (Kenya) — all of which will test Nigeria’s readiness to reclaim their spot as kings of African youth football.

💭 Opinion: Flying Eagles Show Promise, but the Real Test Begins in Cairo

The 2-1 win over Morak FC may seem like a routine result, but it carries deeper meaning. It reflects a squad still ironing out its rhythm, yet showing glimpses of the grit and talent fans have come to expect from Nigeria’s U-20 side.

Kparobo and Benjamin look ready to lead the line, and with Zubairu’s tactical setup beginning to take shape, expectations are gradually building. However, the road ahead is far from easy. AFCON at the U-20 level is no walk in the park — it’s a battleground for the continent’s rising stars.

🟢 Can the Flying Eagles soar high in Egypt?
🗣️ Do you believe this squad has what it takes to lift Nigeria’s eighth U-20 title?

The countdown to May 1 begins — and so does the dream.
