Gospel World Mourns as Bolaji Olarewaju, aka Big Bolaji, Passes On at 50

The Nigerian gospel community has been thrown into deep mourning following the passing of beloved singer and ordained pastor, Bolaji Olarewaju, popularly known as Big Bolaji, who died on Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025, after a brief illness.

In a heartfelt statement released by the family on Saturday, the gospel icon was remembered as “a cherished father, husband, brother, an esteemed figure in the church community and a giant in the music industry.”

🙏 A Life Devoted to Ministry and Music

Big Bolaji was not just a gospel artist; he was a movement, a voice of praise that carried weight both behind the mic and at the pulpit. As an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), he touched countless lives with his soul-lifting music, fiery sermons, and community outreach.

He began his music ministry with the group J’apha, gradually becoming a household name in Nigeria's gospel scene and beyond.

🕊️ A Giant Leaves the Stage

Only recently, Big Bolaji celebrated his 50th birthday—a milestone that many fans and fellow artists marked with tributes and gratitude for his decades-long impact. His sudden departure, just days after, has sent shockwaves through the church and entertainment community alike.

“It still feels unreal,” one fan posted online. “We just celebrated his 50th. A true soldier of Christ. Rest well, sir.”

🎙️ More Than a Singer

Beyond his melodious voice, Big Bolaji was a radio talk show host and mentor to upcoming gospel artists. Known for his humor, humility, and heart for service, he was a bridge between traditional gospel roots and the modern-day sound.

Whether singing at packed auditoriums or hosting prayer concerts, Big Bolaji made sure the message of hope and salvation was never lost.

💬 Our Take: A Heavenly Homecoming, But A Heavy Loss

Big Bolaji’s passing is a painful reminder that even giants fall—but what they leave behind echoes for generations.

In a world where gospel is increasingly commercialized, Big B stood as a reminder that ministry should be about impact, not applause. His songs weren’t just melodies; they were anointed messages that healed, restored, and uplifted.

While we grieve, we also celebrate a life well spent in purpose. He may have left the stage, but his voice still plays in our hearts.

The family has asked for prayers and privacy at this time. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Drop a tribute below if Big Bolaji ever blessed your life through song or sermon.
