Finidi George Credits Hard Work for Rivers United’s Strong NPFL Finish
Rivers United boss Finidi George has hailed the fighting spirit and resilience of his team after they secured a second-place finish in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season — a result that also earned them a coveted spot in next year’s CAF Champions League.
Despite missing out on the title to a relentless Remo Stars, Finidi praised his players’ commitment and emphasized that hard work was the foundation of their success.
“Our success story this season is all about hard work,” Finidi told the club’s media. “The players responded. We had that moment, but we lost a little bit of steam in the campaign. Remo Stars pushed; they were consistent and kept on with the lead till the end.”
Finidi, a former Super Eagles star and one of the most respected football minds in the country, had boldly declared at the start of the season that continental football was the goal — and he’s delivered on that promise.
“I said it at the start of the season that we will get the continental ticket. Now, here we are,” he added proudly.
✍️ Opinion: A Season to Build On — But Lessons to Learn
While Rivers United can hold their heads high, the story of the season is a reminder that momentum matters. The late slip in concentration cost them a potential league title — something that will surely fuel their hunger next season.
Finidi George’s tactical intelligence, calm leadership, and clear vision have shaped Rivers United into a formidable force. However, to take that next step — to be champions of Nigeria and serious contenders in Africa — consistency and mental fortitude across all 38 matches will be essential.
