NAPTIP May Arrest Speed Darlington Over Shocking Comments About Minor
Controversial Nigerian entertainer Speed Darlington is now at the center of a growing legal storm after failing to honour a summons by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Friday.
The singer, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, was expected at NAPTIP’s Abuja headquarters by 9:00 a.m., but as of noon, he had not appeared, and no formal communication was received from him. This development follows the circulation of a disturbing Instagram Live video in which he allegedly confessed to having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.
⚖️ NAPTIP Reacts: “We Will Take Action”
NAPTIP officials, speaking to Saturday Punch, confirmed they are prepared to take legal action if Okoye continues to ignore the official invitation. According to the agency, the video content was voluntarily made and left little room for ambiguity.
“He was not under duress. It was an admission,” NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Adekoye Vincent, said.
Shockingly, Speed Darlington released another video afterward stating that if he had known the backlash would be this intense, “he would have gone for a 12-year-old”—a comment that has outraged Nigerians further and deepened public concern about his mental state and the protection of minors.
🚨 Opinion: Enough Is Enough—Speed Darlington Must Be Held Accountable
Let’s be honest: this isn’t entertainment—this is a serious matter of child protection and justice.
What started as an outrageous “confession” for shock value has now crossed the lines of legality, decency, and humanity. Whether Speed Darlington was attempting dark humour, clout-chasing, or simply doesn’t understand the gravity of what he said, it does not excuse the implications of publicly admitting to sex with a minor.
His blatant disregard for the law and his failure to show up when summoned by a federal agency only adds insult to injury.
🧒 Our Children Deserve Protection, Not Punchlines
This case is not just about one man and one disturbing video. It’s a reflection of a wider culture that often dismisses or laughs off sexual violence, especially when it involves celebrities.
NAPTIP's firm response is not only necessary—it's urgent. We live in a country where many cases of child abuse go unreported or unresolved. To let this slide would be an injustice to every child who suffers in silence.
💭 Final Thought
Freedom of speech does not protect confessions of crimes. The public must demand accountability—and the law must step in when that line is crossed.
As NAPTIP’s Director-General, Binta Bello, continues to monitor the situation closely, many Nigerians are hoping this becomes a precedent-setting case in holding public figures responsible for their words and actions.
🛑 We must stop normalizing dangerous behaviour under the cloak of fame.
📣 What’s your take? Should NAPTIP proceed with prosecution immediately or give Speed Darlington more time to respond?
