“We Were Abandoned!” – Nollywood Veteran Alapini Calls Out Tinubu, Son Seyi Over Neglect of Elderly Actors
In a heartfelt and emotional revelation, veteran Nollywood actor Ganiu Nafiu, popularly known as Alapini, has called out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his son, Seyi Tinubu, for what he describes as neglect and abandonment following the 2023 presidential elections.
Appearing on Behind the Fame – African A-List TV, Alapini shared his deep disappointment, revealing that he and over 100 senior Nollywood actors actively campaigned for Tinubu, hoping their support would translate into recognition, inclusion, or at least basic appreciation after the victory.
“We were campaigning with joy thinking our messiah had arrived,” Alapini lamented. “But after two months of work, we were ignored.”
💬 “Even Olaiya Igwe Who Stripped N3ked Is Still Suffering”
Alapini didn’t hold back as he pointed fingers at the younger Tinubu, accusing Seyi of ignoring the very Yoruba communities that fought tirelessly for his father’s win. The actor expressed particular frustration with Seyi’s visible philanthropic activities in the North, while Yoruba veterans and aged entertainers remain unsupported.
“Seyi is now running around the North paying hospital bills. Aren’t there sick people in Yorubaland too?” he questioned bitterly.
“Even Olaiya Igwe who stripped himself n3ked at the beach because of Tinubu — he hasn’t recovered from the curses people laid on him.”
💭 OPINION: Empty Promises and Forgotten Faces — When Politics Uses Artistes
Alapini’s outcry reflects a painful but recurring pattern: celebrities are often used for political campaigns, only to be forgotten once power is secured. In Nigeria especially, the glamour of campaign seasons often fades into silence and neglect for those who lent their voices.
Politics thrives on optics. But what happens to the actors behind the optics when the curtains fall?
It’s a sobering moment for the entertainment industry — a reminder that loyalty without protection is exploitation. If cultural icons like Alapini feel betrayed after publicly aligning with power, what hope do the voiceless have?
The question remains: Will Tinubu — or Seyi — respond to this cry for respect? Or will this, like many other promises, fade into the echoes of “campaign season talk”?
