Osas Ighodaro Opens Up on Coping with Mother’s Death: “The Pain Never Goes Away, But I’m Learning to Move Forward”

Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro has shared a heartfelt reflection on the loss of her mother nearly four years ago, opening up about how she manages the lingering pain of grief.

Speaking on VJ Adams’ show, Off The Top, Osas revealed that while the sorrow remains a constant companion, it often catches her unexpectedly.

“I haven’t cried in a while; it has almost been four years since my mum passed away and the pain never goes away,” she admitted.

She explained that instead of suppressing her emotions, she allows herself to feel the pain fully, then moves forward, embracing grief as a natural part of her healing process.

“From time to time the emotion takes over and it can come unawares... I’ve learnt to allow it to take its course, brush it off and keep it moving.”

A Message of Hope and Resilience

What gives Osas strength is her belief that these struggles are temporary — a mindset she encourages others who have lost loved ones to adopt.

“This situation is temporary. Live your life the best way you can so when your time comes to transition, you have a lot to tell your family over there.”

She finds comfort in the hope that one day, she’ll reunite with her mother and share meaningful stories from her life.

“I’m trying to live my life so that when I meet my mum long from now, I’d have a lot to gist about.”

Opinion: Grief Is Not Linear — Embracing the Pain Leads to Healing

Osas Ighodaro’s openness reminds us that grief doesn’t follow a timeline — it ebbs and flows unpredictably. Her courage in embracing her emotions instead of bottling them up is a powerful lesson in mental health and emotional resilience.

In a society where many feel pressured to "move on" quickly, Osas encourages us to accept grief as a part of life’s journey, reminding us that healing comes with time and self-compassion.

Her story is not just about loss but about hope, strength, and the beauty of living fully despite pain. It inspires anyone struggling to hold onto faith that brighter days lie ahead.
