Injury Setback for Paul Onuachu as Trabzonspor Confirm One-Month Absence
Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has suffered a blow ahead of the 2025/26 Turkish Super Lig season, with Trabzonspor confirming he will be sidelined for up to one month following an ankle injury sustained during a pre-season friendly.
According to TalkTalk Nigeria, the 31-year-old forward will now miss the club’s early fixtures, including crucial games against Kocaelispor, Kasimpasa, Antalyaspor, and Samsunspor. The new Super Lig season is set to kick off on Friday, August 9.
🔄 From Southampton to Super Lig Dreams
Onuachu recently completed a permanent move from Southampton to Trabzonspor after impressing on loan last season. His physical presence and aerial prowess were expected to be key for the Black Sea Storm's title ambitions this term.
Now, the club will have to begin the campaign without their leading forward, a setback that could test their attacking depth early on.
🧠 Opinion: A Blow — But Not a Disaster
While Onuachu’s injury is a major miss for Trabzonspor, the one-month timeframe means it’s not a long-term disaster. If anything, it’s a chance for other squad members to step up in his absence and give the big Nigerian a runway to recover fully.
Trabzonspor fans will be hoping he returns stronger and sharper for the busier stretch of the season — especially with European fixtures around the corner.
📣 Trabzonspor faithful, how do you think the team will cope without Onuachu in the opening games?
And Super Eagles fans — will this impact his national team chances ahead of qualifiers?
