FIFA Strips Man Utd, Liverpool & Man City of Club World Cup Titles — Declares Chelsea the Only ‘World Champions’

In a historic and controversial decision, FIFA has officially stripped Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, and even global giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona of their Club World Cup titles.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, FIFA has reclassified all previous winners of the competition as “FIFA Intercontinental Champions,” making Chelsea the first and only club to be officially recognized as world champions under the new format.

🏆 Chelsea Crowned the Only World Champions

This dramatic change follows Chelsea’s dominant 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final. The tournament featured an expanded format with 32 teams across six continents — making it the most competitive edition in history.

FIFA now considers this revamped tournament the true Club World Cup. With that, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea go down in history as the first “officialworld champions, as per the new designation.

⚠️ What Happens to Past Winners?

Clubs like Man United (2008), Liverpool (2019), and Man City (2023) will now carry the lesser title of “Intercontinental Champions.” This applies to all champions before the 2025 tournament — including multiple-time winners like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The next edition of the tournament is set for 2029, with clubs like PSG, Pyramids FC, Al Hilal, and Cruz Azul already qualified via their continental titles.

🧠 Opinion: FIFA’s Decision Might Be Logical, But It’s Also Disrespectful

Let’s not sugarcoat it: FIFA’s rebranding move is bound to ruffle feathers. While the intention may be to elevate the prestige of the expanded format, erasing decades of legacy wins from iconic clubs comes off as heavy-handed.

Stripping clubs of their “world champion” status undermines the achievements of entire squads, coaching staffs, and fans who celebrated these victories. FIFA might argue that the 2025 edition is more comprehensive — but greatness should never be rewritten. It should be evolved, not erased.

📣 Do you agree with FIFA’s decision? Should Chelsea be considered the only true world champions? Or is this revisionism gone too far?
