The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, on Friday honoured Super Falcons forward and Benue-born star, Francisca Ordega, for her key role in Nigeria’s historic 10th WAFCON title at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Ordega was received in Abuja at the Ministry's headquarters, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, in a warm and emotional visit celebrating her contribution to Nigeria’s football greatness.

The Minister praised the Super Falcons for their team spirit, resilience, and exceptional performance, noting that the victory not only inspired millions of Nigerians but also placed the country on a global pedestal.

“I’m particularly proud that a daughter of Benue is part of the champions who made Nigeria proud. We will continue to support and inspire the youth in Benue to excel,” he said.

He also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for honoring the Falcons with national awards and financial incentives, reinforcing the government's commitment to women’s football and sports excellence.

A beaming Francisca Ordega expressed gratitude to the Minister, describing him as “a brother and uncle”, and thanked the people of Benue, President Tinubu, and Nigerians for their unwavering support during the tournament.

“It’s a great feeling to be recognized by my state and country. I hope this inspires more young girls from Benue to dream big,” she said.

Ordega also made a passionate plea for increased sports investment in Benue State:

“Please invest more in grassroots sports. There are many talents in Benue waiting to be discovered.”
