Hilda Baci Announces Ambitious Plan to Cook 250 Bags of Rice for World’s Biggest Jollof Pot

Hilda Baci Announces Ambitious Plan to Cook 250 Bags of Rice for World’s Biggest Jollof Pot

Celebrity chef and former Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for marathon cooking, Hilda Baci, has unveiled another record-breaking ambition — to cook 250 bags of rice in what she describes as the “world’s biggest jollof pot.”

The star chef made the announcement on Monday, via a trending video on her Instagram page, sparking excitement across social media.

According to Hilda, the monumental cooking exercise will involve a 22,619-litre pot, measuring six meters wide, 1.1 meters tall, and 1.3 meters deep. The event, set for September 12, 2025, is projected to feed at least 10,000 people.

“I’m making the executive decision to cook 250 bags of basmati rice. The pot is 6 meters wide by 6 meters wide, 1.1 meters tall, and about 1.3 meters deep. I’m sure the pot is not going to sink,” Hilda said with her characteristic confidence and humor.

This comes two years after she shot to global fame by cooking for 93 hours and 11 minutes to set the then-record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Opinion: A Celebration of Food, Culture, and Ambition

Hilda’s latest project is not just about rice — it’s about pushing boundaries, celebrating culture, and uniting people through food. Jollof rice, especially, holds a cultural significance in West Africa, sparking endless debates between Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal about who makes it best. By attempting to cook the world’s largest jollof pot, Hilda isn’t only chasing a record — she’s putting Nigerian culinary pride on the global stage.

At a time when most world records feel quirky or out of touch, this one feels different. It is practical, communal, and celebratory. Feeding 10,000 people with a single dish isn’t just a feat of endurance; it’s an act of generosity and festivity.

Of course, challenges lie ahead — from logistics and safety to ensuring the food is actually edible at such a massive scale. But if there’s anyone with the daring spirit and experience to pull it off, it’s Hilda Baci.

In many ways, this event is shaping up to be more than a record attempt; it could become a cultural festival of food and unity. Nigerians — and indeed the world — will be watching closely as Hilda stirs her way into yet another chapter of history.
