Hilda Baci Washes Giant Pot Ahead of Guinness World Record Jollof Attempt, Video Goes Viral
Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has once again captured public attention—this time not with food, but with her dedication.
In preparation for her ambitious attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian Jollof at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Baci personally climbed into the six-metre-wide custom pot to scrub it clean.
Sharing an update on Instagram on Friday, she posted a video of herself washing the pot, joking:
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I personally rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself.”
The clip showed Baci inside the giant vessel, scrubbing and rinsing its interior, while tagging the detergent brand she used. She explained:
“I know you’re probably shocked right now — why is she inside the pot? I need to wash the pot properly. After I finish cleaning and draining it, I’ll rinse it again, then use new mopsticks to clean it once more before cooking for you.”
The pot, which she described as the vessel for “thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” is central to her latest record-breaking attempt.
Baci first made global headlines in May 2023 when she completed a 100-hour cooking marathon in Lagos, securing her place in the Guinness World Records.
Opinion: A Touch of Humor, A Dose of Dedication
What makes Hilda Baci such a captivating figure is not just her culinary skill, but her authenticity and attention to detail. By personally scrubbing a six-metre-wide pot, she reminds us that greatness is often rooted in the simplest acts of responsibility.
The viral video also shows her playful side. In a world where celebrities often outsource the “dirty work,” Hilda diving into a pot—literally—blends professionalism with humor. It’s the kind of authenticity that keeps her fans rooting for her, not just as a chef, but as a relatable figure who doesn’t shy away from hard work.
More importantly, this moment highlights the symbolism of her Jollof attempt. Nigerian Jollof is more than food—it’s culture, pride, and identity. Seeing her prepare meticulously for this record attempt underlines the seriousness with which she carries Nigeria’s culinary banner to the world.
