Hilda Baci Opens Her Record-Breaking Pot of Jollof Rice to Lagos Residents
Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has extended an open invitation to Lagosians to come and enjoy meals from her recently concluded Guinness World Record attempt for the largest pot of jollof rice.
The historic event, held at Eko Hotel in Lagos, produced thousands of kilograms of jollof rice. Despite large-scale packaging and distribution, an enormous quantity still remains, prompting Baci to call on residents to bring containers and share in the feast.
In a heartfelt video message on Instagram, the chef stressed the importance of ensuring the food does not go to waste.
“We’re still packaging food. There is still so much food. Please, you guys, come through and come and get the food. It’s a lot and we cannot waste it. Please, the food is good. I promise you, a trial will convince you. Just come through, you can bring your coolers,” she said.
Baci revealed that she has been at the venue since the cooking began and is determined not to leave until the pot is emptied.
“I’m not going to leave this place until this pot is empty and until everybody in Lagos has eaten from this food,” she declared.
Opinion: A Feast Beyond Records
What makes this story remarkable is not just the sheer size of the pot or the Guinness recognition it may bring, but the spirit of generosity and community behind it. Hilda Baci’s decision to open her record-breaking effort to the public reflects a beautiful truth: food, at its best, is about sharing.
In a city where many struggle with the rising cost of living, this initiative becomes more than a culinary achievement—it is a moment of collective joy and relief. The image of Lagos residents coming with coolers to share in one giant pot of jollof is symbolic of unity, abundance, and care.
This event reminds us that records fade but kindness lingers. By ensuring that not a single grain of rice goes to waste, Hilda has transformed a Guinness attempt into a people’s celebration. And perhaps, that is the real record worth celebrating.
